Sister Ellen Porter, OSB
Sister Ellen Porter, OSB, died at her home, Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, Erie, Pennsylvania, on August 22, 2008 after a long illness. She had celebrated her 60th birthday last month.

"Come and See" Day

Sister Janet Goetz, OSB, vocation minister, announces that women ages 20-40 are invited to a day of prayer, presentations, discussions and activities on Sat., Sept. 13 at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, 6101 East Lake Road, Erie. The day begins at 7:45 a.m. and concludes at 7 p.m. Lunch and dinner will be served.

A Joyful Jubilee
Seven Sisters were recognized and celebrated at Evening Praise on
Saturday, August 16 at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery. The Sisters marked
60, 50 and 25 years of monastic profession.

Blessing of the Ministries
At prayer on the Sunday morning which concluded Learning, Leisure and Legislation Days, each Sister is asked to submit a paper that states her present ministry and how she is going to uphold and support our corporate commitment. At that time Christine Vladimiroff, OSB, prioress, gives each Sister the name of another Sister to asked to uphold in prayer throughout the coming year.

Sisters Pause for Annual Summer Retreat
In 2006 the prioresses of the 50 U.S. monasteries that make up the Conference of Benedictine Prioresses released a 75-page booklet, “Wisdom from the Tradition: A Statement of North American Benedictine Women in Response to Our Times”. This was, also, the overarching theme of our annual community retreat in June.

Siser Christine Vladimiroff, OSB, prioress facilitated a retreat for Benedictine Sisters in Duluth, Minnesota, and Sister Anne McCarthy participated in an interreligious conference in Kentucky. Sister Joan Chittister, OSB won a first place Catholic Press Association award and we update you on the Heritage of Hope Capital Campaign.

Seven Sisters Celebrate the Joy of their Jubilee Years
“Uphold me, O God, according to your word
and I shall live,
and do not fail me in my hope.”
The Sisters sing this third stanza of Psalm 119 when they renew their vows.
The Benedictine Sisters of Erie will recognize and celebrate the Jubilees of these Sisters during Evening Praise on Saturday, August 16.
