BEHREND BUSINESS STUDENTS
Penn State Erie, the Behrend Campus business students were given a challenge as a class project to develop a product that they could put "on the market." Matthew Didiano explained that his group chose to employ the expertise of friends in the Engineering school to develop a pencil dispenser. They came up with a design similar to the toothpick dispensers found in some restaurants. The proceeds from the sale of the dispensers along with several other smaller fundraising efforts were all dedicated to the Neighborhood Art House. We applaud these students for turning their project into an opportunity to offer support to a local charity, and we are especially glad that they chose us! |

Gannon University Schuster Program
A $2,000 award from Gannon’s Schuster Re-Grant Program provided 50 pair of ballet shoes for dance students, 40 stools for art studios and 6 copies of Photoshop Elements, software used by the digital photography class. We are grateful for the continuing support that this program provides. |

ERIE INSURANCE
Erie Insurance has been a faithful supporter of the NAH from the very early days. This year they very generously donated $75,000 to us through the PA Education Improvement Tax Credit Program. We are ever so grateful to them and to all the businesses that provide much needed financial support to the Art House. |

The Neighborhood Art House provides classes in the visual, performing and literary arts to at risk children in Erie. This program, offered in a safe, nourishing and caring environment, is at no cost to the children who attend after-school and/or summer classes.
A ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, the mission of the Neighborhood Art House is to enable children to experience beauty, grow in positive self-expression and self-discipline, and develop into full and productive human beings.

Volunteer Opportunities
Sixty volunteers weekly perform a variety of program-related roles including teacher, reader, tutor, and program or office aide. Others serve on standing committees, develop and assist at fundraisers, read during lunch time for a week in the summer, or perform a myriad of other services. In addition to the weekly volunteers, college and even high school gift the Art House with their time as part of their service learning requirements. If you are interested in volunteering, contact our Program Director at program@neighborhoodarthouse.org or by calling 455-5508.
The Neighborhood Art House is also an approved site for placement of college students who qualify for the PHEAA Off-Campus Community Service Program. For information on this program contact the Executive Director at NAH@neighborhoodarthouse.org or by calling 455-5508.
Come Bring the Children
Come, Bring the Children
Stand them on their toes and let them twirl into tomorrow.
Say to them,
Come, Bring the Children
Sneak them into the land of Oz, let them live Where the Wild Things Are.
Say to them,
Come, Bring the Children
Jump barefoot in clay until it takes a shape of tiger teeth.
Say to them,
Come, Bring the Children
Pour a bucketful of paint on gray sidewalks and empty dreams.
Say to them,
Come, Bring the Children
Toss hundreds of letters in the air and see how they land.
Say to them,
Come, Bring the Children
Kneel at the notes of sax, piano, cello, snare drum
soul-stretching a star-lit night.
Say to them,
—by Mary Lou Kownacki, OSB,
Founder of the Inner-City Neighborhood Art House
