Community celebrates jubilees

Sisters celebrate jubilees

The Benedictine community celebrated this year's jubilarians amid challenging covid restrictions. After one covid postponement, the sisters followed through with the family-style gathering even though one jubilarian was unable to attend due to covid. Other sisters who had been exposed to the virus took their meals in their rooms and then masked before returning to the dining room for the program. In spite of the challenges it was important to hold the annual gathering to honor and reflect on the lives of sisters marking significant anniversaries.

After evening prayer that included remarks by prioress Sister Stephanie Schmidt, four sisters renewed their vows. Sister Mary Grace Hanes renewed her vows on the 75th annversary of her first vows. Sister Mary Louis Eichenlaub celebrated 70 years. Sister Theresa Zoky renewed her vows after 60 years, and Sister Linda Romey after 25 years. Sister Cecilia Sullivan who was also celebrating 70 years will renew her vows at a later date. You can listen to the reflections of Sister Stephanie, on the Gospel of John verses 15:1-7, below.

Following vespers and dinner in the monastery dining room, the sisters enjoyed a short program. With Sister Chris Kosin as the emcee, various sisters were invited to remember and honor the lives of each jubilarian. Pictured above, a community toast to the jubilarians.
