Thank you to our employees

Gary Good is honored for more than 30 years of service

"We know that we are blessed to have such a dedicated, reliable, committed and flexible staff," said prioress Sister Stephanie Schmidt as she welcomed and offered a blessing for employees of the Benedictine Sisters gathered for the annual Employee Picnic. "Every year we look forward to this opportunity to show our appreciation for you and all that you do on a daily basis to help our home run smoothly. Today we honor you for your friendship and generosity."

Members of the multiple staffs at the monastery: housekeeping, health care, food service, physical resources, development, and a few who are not affiliated with a specific department were honored. Some staff members brought family members with them for the catered luncheon with the sisters in the monastery dining room.

A highlight of the event is always the gift auction. Employees receive tickets, the number determined by their years of service, which they can drop in buckets for several dozen gifts ranging from toys and children's games to household items to electronics including a TV and a computer. After lunch, winners are drawn while everyone applauds the lucky winners. Sister Diane Cook, treasurer, and Sister Marilyn Schauble, human resources coordinator, prepared the auction. The final drawing is for a grand prize of cash.

This year had another highlight--honoring Gary Good who retired in May after more than 30 years on the physical resources staff. He was honored with cake and gifts and a special song, all with a play on his name, Good, and recognizing that Gary is a very good guy and the sisters and other staff will miss him. He is pictured here with one of his gifts, presented by Sister Marilyn at the podium.
