Catholic Sisters Week

Catholic Sisters Week 2025

Erie Benedictine oblates celebrated their Benedictine sisters on Sunday in honor of Catholic Sisters week. With the collaboration of Michelle Basista, Development Associate, and Oblate Cynthia Legin-Bucell and the technical assistance of Jim Wertz, the oblates created a twenty-minute video of personal thank you messages. "It was a very touching tribute, and some of us were moved to tears," said Sister Linda Romey. "We had been invited to this surprise gathering and had no idea that we would hear so many kind and loving messages, or that so many oblates would come to celebrate in person with us. We are likewise so grateful for our oblates; our Benedictine life is very much enriched by their presence among us."

Sisters and oblates gathered in the community room for a welcome from Michelle, pictured at the mic, and a viewing of the video. Afterwards, a cake that read "Happy Catholic Sisters Week" was cut and shared while sisters and oblates reminisced and socialized.

The Erie-Times News published an op ed from Bishop Persico honoring all the Catholic sisters in the diocese. Read it here.
