Monasteries of the Heart is a new form of Benedictine life for our time. It is a monastery “without walls” — it unites individuals and groups by Benedictine values not necessarily geographic location and provides individual seekers a monastic website for spiritual sustenance and personal growth.

Benetwood Apartments
Monastic hospitality is offered to low income, elderly, and handicapped persons at Benetwood Apartments. Located on property adjacent to the monastery, the low-rise, 75 apartment building is a government subsidized non-profit facility administered by the community.Manager: Wendy Wallace

Emmaus Ministries
The Emmaus Soup Kitchen provides food, presence and dignity to the poor of Erie through a soup kitchen that serves 1,500 meals a week; an after school Kids Cafe program that offers a home-cooked meal and recreation opportunities to 70 children a day; a food pantry that distributes 30,000 food bags per year and a women’s advocacy program.Director: Valerie Luckey, OSB

St. Benedict Education Center
Located in our former high school, Saint Benedict Academy in downtown Erie, SBEC offers intensive case management, academic remediation, job readiness preparation, job development and job placement assistance for 300 people each year.

St. Benedict Child Development Center
Saint Benedict’s Child Development Center was Erie’s first accredited early child care facility. A staff of 40 full and part-time teachers manages daycare, head start for migrant children, and infant care programs.

Benedictines for Peace (BFP) carries the ancient quest for peace into contemporary times. As the peace and justice outreach of the Erie Benedictine community, BFP members advocate for nonviolence, social change, and justice by direct action, prayer, and bearing witness.
