Benetwood residents share community with sisters at monastery

Sisters and Benetwood guests enjoy dinner

Residents of the Benedictine Sisters' Benetwood Apartments recently joined the sisters for prayer and dinner, an annual event celebrates the relationship of friends and neighbors between the two living communities. In her welcome to Benetwood guests, Sister Diane Rabe, administrator of the Benedictine Sisters, introduced the new Benetwood manager, Darlene Winicki, to the sisters. Members of the Benetwood board were also in attendance. Sisters Kathleen McCarthy and Cindy Hoover are on the staff at Benetwood and helped coordinate the event. "This is our first time coming to the monastery," one guest told the sisters. "We moved in a year ago right at the time people were talking about this dinner, we're enjoying being here and participating this year," added her husband. The two related how happy they are to be part of the Benetwood community.

Benetwood is a 75-unit HUD-sponsored apartment complex that the Benedictine community opened in 1981 on property adjacent to the monastery. From the time the first residents moved in, there has been a neighborly bond between Benetwood residents and the sisters. They enjoy the walking paths on each other’s grounds, some Benetwood residents occasionally join the sisters for prayer and liturgy.
