Catholic Sisters Week Begins With Celebration

Group of sisters at the Mount

Each year from March 8th-14th, the church in the United States observes Catholic Sisters Week, with the first day falling on International Women's Day. The 2026 theme is “Stories of Hope and Heart."

On the first day of this celebratory week, a surprise gathering was held for the sisters at the monastery. Over the past week, oblates assembled two tri-fold poster boards full of messages expressing their gratitude for the sisters. The covers were painted with hearts, dandelions, and the words "with great gratitude for who you are & what you do." After all the lovely notes and messages from the oblates were read, cake was provided and the celebration continued.

Michelle Basista, CFRE, noted the important role this week plays in celebrating the sisters. "All throughout the year, Catholic sisters stand for justice, bring hope to the poor, and pray for peace. During Catholic Sisters Week, it is our chance to shine a light on their good works, and we thank sisters for how much they mean to all of us."

This year for Catholic Sisters Week, parishioners are invited to share a brief story reflecting how a sister has impacted their life. Stories may be submitted here.
