Monasteries of the Heart, the Erie Benedictine's online monastery that launched in 2011, has a new website that maintains the spirit of our online community while modernizing the look and streamlining the user interface.
Monasteries of the Heart launched in conjunction with the publication of the movement’s basic text, The Monastery of the Heart: An Invitation to a Meaningful Life by Joan Chittister. Erie Benedictine Mary Lou Kownacki who died in January, 2023, was the founding director of the new movement, and explained at the time, “This is a response to requests that we’ve received to develop a new form of Benedictine spirituality for a new face of society. Monasteries of the Heart welcomes seekers of God everywhere.”
As an online monastery, Monasteries of the Heart is a community for the 21st century of monastic tradition that provides individual seekers a monastic website for spiritual sustenance and personal growth. The offerings on the site create community among this global movement of seekers, with members sharing, supporting and encouraging each other in the monastic life.
Membership is free and while some content is available to non-members, you must have a membership to access all posts and comments. In addition to regular content for all members, throughout the year paid ecourses and retreats are offered.
